This is amazing, how'd I miss it?

The Strokes - You Only Live Once (Warren Fu Alt. Version)
Uploaded by potq. - See the latest featured music videos.

So......

...a lot of musicians died this year. Pretty sad. Here's a little montage video of the lot of them.

A favorite of mine from the bunch:

Also, they had Mark Linkous aka Sparklehorse on the list, but I wasn't too big of a fan of the song they picked. Here's a couple of personal fav's:

Never heard this version of "Piano Fire" before, but I like it:

Oldie but goodie: 'The Room' Dubstep Remix

The Room is the most amazing movie of our generation, with superb acting.

I found this a while ago, but it was just reposted on Fark. A totally worthwhile listen:

Brings a tear to my eye :*(

Bonus: Alfan Golenpaul's money laundering service.

Monday Malmsteen Mindblower

They are all so good...

Badly Drawn Boy has a mean side...

We all have bad gigs sometimes, BDB. Hang in there, tuff stuff.

The real meaning of Christmas...

It's a GY!BE kind of day

And my personal fav:

Heavy Metal High School Flashback

I thought I saw a lot of movies this year...

Apparently not. Maybe like 1/8th of them in this killer montage:

A little story about the working life

My week is looking less like this:

She and Him cover/disgrace a classic song: I Put a Spell on You

Zooey's too cute to pull this one off.

You gotta be rough and wacky like this guy:

At least it's not as bad as this:

But still not as good as this:

Some blog's supposed "best songs of 2010"

So there's this blog out there called Gorilla vs. Bear that's supposed to be some sort of hot, "finger on the pulse" indie music thingy dingy. I put them up on my Google reader so I can skim through their junk and harvest whatever free mp3's I can get.

Well, they put together this "definitive" list of the year's 50 best songs. I downloaded all the downloadable ones, and I was nottttt very stoked on their choices.

I feel like every single one of these songs is a down tempo snoozer, with lo-fi production and barely audible vocals just to hide their general crappiness, and some synthy stuff just thrown in the mix for good measure.

Am I getting jaded towards new music? Can I not handle the "hip new jive"? Do I miss the "good old days" when indie songs actually were accessible and well written?

Nonetheless, there were a couple I liked. For instance:

Cute little 60's poppy ditty, with an infectious "ooo OOO ooo" hook.

This song sounds like a funeral.

And of course this one:

That's it, kids. I think I need to take a time machine back to 2000, and go back to "simpler times."

Great moments in impulsive internet shopping

I have just bought this.

Speaking of Xmas junk

I could really get behind a Mojo Nixon Christmas

Jack Black And Jason Segel make some creepy Christmas cartoon/song

Apparently, David Bowie and Bing Crosby got together in the 70's and decided to see what it sounds like when you sing 2 Christmas songs at the same time. It turned out pretty okay.

Well, Jack "Zany Fat Dude" Black and Jason "Sensitive Goofball" Segel decided to turn into creepy cartoons and cover it.

Man, Jack Black really brought out the zany and the fat with that skeevy cartoon stache, but Jason really just bummed/creeped me out.

The Go! Team does a song with Best Coast

+

= Surprisingly good

I don't know what the big deal with Best Coast/Bethany Consentino is. She's a big stoner who loves cats and reverb and dates the dude from Wavves. Apparently, Weezer loves her.

Well, that band The Go! Team loves her too. They made a song with her. It's the first track on this page.

It's pretty rockin'/poppy/jangly/feelgood. Makes me wish it was summer or something and I was drinking vodka and koolaid with my feet in an inflatable pool spraying super soakers at people biking down the sidewalk.

It's also called "Buy Nothing Today." I think it's about budgeting your paycheck so you can pay bills and stuff.

Anywho, I guess people just love how she's got that "sorta good, sort of cutely bad, girl next door" voice that sounds endearing and simple enough to relate to. Well, I'll sorta dig it.

Penguin Pit/Passion Prison

Penguin Prison is radical.

Here they are remixing The Pashy Pits:
Little Secrets (Penguin Prison Remix) – Passion Pit

Hey Champ Remixeddddddd

Hey Champ rules. The track "Cold Dust Girl" rules. And that video rules.

Well, a friend of mine sent this to me the other week:

I didn't know what to think until it hit the 4 minute mark... mind=blown.

Totally diggin' it: Derezzed vid

Just finished my work for the day...

...I know what I'm doing this afternoon:

Bored to tears: Deer Hunter

I don't know what the big stinking deal about this Deer Hunter band is, but it seems like everyone's totally sweatin' them these day. Well last night they did Conan...

Ugh... unbearable boring. So boring they need a fog machine for pizazz. So boring they need an echo effect on the drums.

I'm dozing off. Time to nap.

Best business model ever

For 10 bucks, this guy will use his crappy drawing skillz to draw you a crappy looking cat you will probably just throw away after the 24 hours of novelty wears off.

I need to jump on this bandwagon.

How about this...
You send me five dollars, and I will spend five minutes (FIVE WHOLE MINUTES--that's like a lifetime in A.D.D. time) drawing/photoshopping whatever your pretty little brain can conjure up, cat or no cat.

Send requests to:
thetrapperkeeper[at]gmail[dot]com
(We'll work out payment later...)

Here's an example of a request, "Panther riding a dolphin eating a burrito":

I can't wait to get rich.

Brace yourself...

...it's Urkel vs. Megashark vs. Crocosaurus

Final Scene:
Steve Urkel nukes both the Megashark and Crocosaurus, turns to the camera and says "did I do thatttt?"

Sick synth guitar riffs of the day

Totally rad pre-holiday cover of the day

The Walkmen cover "Holiday Road"
In other news, Lindsey Buckingham is a dude because Lindsey is a dude's name too. Just like Leslie. R.I.P. Leslie Nielson, BTW. I want to go to Walley World now.

They may sound annoying as hell...

...but I want one of these weird Japanese sperm-resembling instruments.

Total nerd digression:
At about 1:12, the dude doing the demonstration says "paku paku," when he opens the mouth of the thing. In the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Scott repeatedly tells the story of how Pacman was original called Puckman because "puck" or "paku" meant to flap one's mouth.

Thurz morning classic jam

addicted to this song [via my roommate]

Breaking News: I finally found out what a G6 is

I think everyone in the world has heard this song by now and knows it's about an airplane.

Yep, one of these:

It's got a full kitchen and bar and wireless internet. I desperately want one. I don't think I'd ever leave the plane--basically all I do is eat, drink, and go on the internet all day anyway.

Sadly, this is the closest I'll ever get to jetsetting:

Anybody want to start a fundraiser to buy me a plane?

Rad rad radio rock

I listen to the radio a bajillion hours a day... mostly because I'm too cheap to cough up dough for common amenities such as mp3 players and cds. So when I'm cruisin' in my car and I run out of Iron Maiden tapes to play in the tape deck, or I'm jammin' to my boombox at work, I like to put on the Drexel station, 91.7.

But occasionally, it will just so happen that a block of grindcore music or a weekend-long reggae marathon will come on, and I'm force to switch the dial to the classic rock station. This proves to be a fruitless endeavor, because I can only handle hearing "Sweet Home Alabama" about six times in one hour before I feel like swerving off the ramp and crashing into the Schuykill. Nonetheless, there's one song that I get majorly stoked on when they get around to playing it.

<3 u America
<3 u sista goldy hair

In a semi-related matter...

Keeping with the video game/A.D.D. vibe of the previous post, I have to say Scott Pilgrim has been my fav movie this year thus far.

I was walking to work yesterday and could not remember for the life of me the lyrics to Matthew Patel's song from the first fight.

So slick.

What better way to kick things off...

...than a song that overflows with the A.D.D. and 80's tech cheesiness I hope to embody here:

Let's try this again

The trapper keeper is back in the blogosphere, buster.
